Bridge-Builders in Munich The documents of the Munich Széchenyi Circle in the Hungarian National Museum Zoltán Balahó In 1977, the founding president, Dr. Tibor Buzády organised a charity assembly among the Hungarians of Munich in aid of Hungarian Jesuits in Taiwan. The success of the event led to a heightening of activity among emigrants and formed the basis for founding a cultural association whose success continues to this day. The events organised by the Széchenyi Circle became increasingly successful, and among the speakers invited we find renowned scientists, well-known actors, poets and historians. The association always maintained strong links with Hungarian intellectual life, and its activities organised in the spirit of openness. Between 1978 and 1982 the Circle even rented its own premises, known as the Home for Munich Hungarians. Data for all of the above can be found in the association's documents, which in the spring of 2004 were donated to the Hungarian National Museum. In recognition of his work, in 1992 Dr. Tibor Buzády was awarded the Officer's Cross of the Order of the Hungarian Republic, while (in 1999) the Széchenyi Circle was awarded the title of „Pro Cultura Hungarica" by the Minister for Culture.
