Wall-carpets of the First World War in the Lajos Hatvány Museum (Hatvan) Júlia Donián The survey of folk wall-carpets is a fairly new branch of ethnography. In the middle of the 1970s director of the museum in Hatvan established a collection of 1.000 wall-carpets which was exhibited in many places in Hungary. The usage of sewn wall-carpets with captions was at its highest at the turn of the 19 th and 20thn century, mainly amongst the social classes of rural folk the petit bourgeoisie. The number of wall-carpet with political captions in the collection is small and those about the 1st World War number only 14. Folklorization of those didn't happen for several reasons; nevertheless, they make up a part of our cultural and historical heritage.
