are entries for the periods between 19/7/1914-4/4/1915, 8/11/1917-31/12/1917 and 12/4/1918-30/6/1918. Here and there sketches in his own hand can be found of troop positions. Events of the day appear in the diary, the fighting and assignments given. The changes in mood that the men underwent in the course of the war are confirmed here. The .joy" at the onset of war slowly altered to a sense of loss and embitterment at the prolongation of the war. We learn how, in the final years of the war, the hussars were adapted to serve as infantrymen. The diary adds much to the bibliography of Viktor Széchényi.
