I. Tanulmányok - Deák Antal András: Egy fantomtérképész nyomában

In the Trail of the Phantom Cartographer András Antal Deák The Zagreb State Archives preserve four unsigned hand-drawn maps prepared after the Peace Treaty of Karlowitz, which according to Croatian specialist literature were drawn by Pavao Ritter Vitezovic (Paulus Ritter). The article contends this assertion. Using biographical-related data, it shows that on the one hand no map of Vitezovic survives upon the basis of which it could be claimed that he was of equal calibre with the cartographer J.C. Müller. On the other, it follows from the role he filled in demarcating boundaries that he was not involved in the drawing of maps but m assisting his Austrian superior in obtaining maps and historical data. Finally, from the maps themselves it can be asserted that they were drawn by a single hand, and by placing them next to each other it can be claimed that three of them are the work of Christoph Müller.
