mid-1980's. They are often called as „sub-centres" in Hungarian geography. Abádszalók, Kunmadaras and Poroszló form the third group of the centres in the Middle-Tisza Region. They are large villages with some central functions but they haven't got attraction-zones. These centres are similar to „key-settlements". Both of them are part of attraction-zones of other centres (e.g. Tiszafüred, Kunhegyes or Karcag). This paper underlines that the process of changing in hierarchical organisation of settlements is a rather long-lasted one, especially in a peripheral, underdeveloped area with bad living conditions and historical backwardness (see. Middle-Tisza Region) on the one hand. But on the other hand the author shows that this long-lasted process can be analysed by investigating the tendency of past two centuries. The new methods of this research (e.g. questionnaires) and some picture postcards, photos from the first half of 20th century refer to temporal dimension of spatial process. The results and the states of this study should be useful for planning policy and self-governing practice of Middle-Tisza Region. Translated by the author 187
