The history of the museum of Tiszafüred between 1955-1958

The previous paper focused on the history of the 130-year-old museum between 1947-1954, a period which was not exempt from years of crisis. This paper describes the following years, from 1955 to 1958. These few years, if possible, were even more difficult than any previous period. This is corroborated by the fact, that during the examined period, the position of a full-time museum director remained empty. From January, 1955 to January, 1956 Ottó Gráf, a high-school teacher in Tiszafüred, was the part-time museum director for a honorarium. But after this, from early January, 1956 to April, 1958, the institution, having lost its independence, essentially functioned without a director and with a single employee, a part-time caretaker. During this period, the director of the Déri Museum in Debrecen administered the professional and directorial tasks concerning the museum of Tiszafüred. The paper focuses on this period, citing several original documents. Apart from the examination of its functioning conditions, the paper analyzes the growth of its collection, the state of the register at the time and the changes in numbers of visitors in order to paint an image for posterity of a critical situation in the life of a small museum in the country.
