Drawings of Zádor István on the envoys of the Bucharest peace talk. Zádor István was one of the most employed and most renowned war painter of World War I. It was typical for his creative period during the First World War that he made his photographs, drawings and paintings on orders from the military. The epitome of his art is war coverage, introduction to the life and every day of soldiers, as the artist said: 'through report drawings’. First lieutenant Zádor István, war painter on 1918. March 1. was requested to draw the portraits of all the delegates during the peace talks at Bucharest. We know of no other war painter except Zádor, who followed the whole peace process at its entirety, drawing the portraits of all delegates and writing up with a literature care. This article is based on the portraits that can be found in the Art Collection of the Damjanich János Museum. For the description of the milieu of the works, the prime source was what was written in Zádor’s „Egy hadifestő emlékei” (Memories of a war painter). For the historical background and the backstage diplomatic manoeuvring the trusted source was the three volume book of the authentic participant of the events, Hungarian Royal general staff lieu- tenant-colonel vitéz Nagybaczoni Nagy Vilmos. The article expanded with the biography of the delegates gives an extensive, suggestive picture on this extraordinary part of Zádor’s life work and the value of the works done there. With this an important chapter of Zádor’s work becomes known. KÉPEK FORRÁSA Damjanich János Múzeum, művészettörténeti gyűjtemény - 4,13,20,26. kép - ZÁDOR István: Egy hadifestő emlékei 19141918.
