Religion is a human universality, because it is only characteristic for human societies and cultures, and it can be found in every society living today or in the past. Where does human religiousness origins? When Homo religious appears? When, how and why religion formulates? What can be seen as the first religious phenomenon? These few pages won’t give

the answers, but it’s not their purpose. This article shows a few possible paths and explanations through a relatively new, but popular approach, the evolutionary perspective. So the central question of the article is what answer the most dynamically growing scientific trend, the evolutionary perspective can give to the origin and formation of religion?
