Mannheim- Mainz. 951-953. János Cseh Kengyel-Vígh-tanya. Gépid settlement feature with bone comb with runes from the 6th century AD The article that lays before the reader, contains the description of the early Meroving Era settlement feature of Vigh-tanya near Kengyel and its goods. It was here that the already published bone comb, from the middle third of the 6th century, that is probably the most distinguished find of author’s archaeological work, came to light. The said settlement pit get the name ‘point 4' during the excavation (in the March of 1992.) On the highest level of the high bank declivity an ashy-charcoaled-dauby central part, pulled away in a W-E direction by the plough, with quite a lot of finds appeared very clearly. The settlement feature can be considered primarily as pit like workplace or storage space (but for economical use for sure). From its fill and from the surroundings 922 piece of archaeological finds were found. There were 6 pieces of prehistoric and Árpádian Age sherds. Along with the 584 Gépid pottery sherds 332 piece of other artefacts could be counted. Next to the 542 wheeled pottery, only 42 hand-made was found (approx. 7%). The 527 piece (53 rim, 418 side, 54 bottom and 2 handle) of the mass, grainy version is complemented by 15 fine ceramics - 7 with smoothed-in decoration - that is 35 of the wheeled ware. The rest of the material: 2 bone comb, 2 spinning whirls, 1 whetstone, 6 millstones, 8 loom weights at the most, 1 nutshell, 118 daub pieces and some charcoal. 1 fishbone and 194 other animal bones represent the zoological material. 225
