TISICUM XXV. - RÉGÉSZET Péter F. Kovács La Téne ‘Sapropelite’ hoop jewellery from Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok County The archaeological research of the sapropelite or sapropelite-like artefacts is a problematic field with geological and archaeological aspects as well. The most significant questions form two main groups: 1. Geological or archaeomterical aspects: Analysing the artefacts and identifying the raw material in a geological sense Making control measures and identify the sources 2. Archaeological aspects: Basic investigation (collecting data on size, shape, spread, chronology, etc.) Personal pattern and symbolism Preparation analysis In case of Hungary sapropelite/black shale objects or ‘biackwares’ are barely investigated. Therefore, present paper not only intends to summarize the international results but also aims to collect the available data of sapropelite, jet and lignite objects from the Late Iron Age Hungary (1. table, 3. map). As a consequence, a total number of 55 black bracelets from 44 different sites are presented which can only be regarded a minimum number since in some cases the publications does not specify the exact amount of fragments. Most of these jewelleries were discovered in graves: 12 probably belonged to females while the rest have unknown context. Inhumation is the most common burial practice although in Ludas, Bükk- ábrány and Jászberény - Hajtai-halom (1-2. fig. 7. fig) the deceased were cremated. In Badacsony (stray find) an angular shaped bracelet was unearthed which is the only exception from the general circle shaped type. The territory of Bohemia (1. map) is considered as the possible provenance of the raw material Nevertheless, four bracelets from Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok County (2. map) are also presented. One from (Kunszentmárton) - Telekpart site was found in grave excavated in the early 20th century (the bracelet is inaccessible). The other one is a 6 cm long piece from Jászberény - Almási tanya site which was found in a sunken floor building (3. fig). The third was found in the 9lh grave at the unpublished cemetery from Jászberény - Hajtai-halom. The fourth one was discovered in 2014 at the vicinity of Besenyszög at Berek-ér partja site (4, 5, 6. fig.), placed on the left forearm of a female. All these finds are dated between LT B2 and C1 phases. 206
