KIRÁLY ÁGNES: ÚJABB ADATOK AZ ALFÖLDI GÁVA-KULTÚRA TEMETKEZÉSEINEK PROBLÉMÁJÁHOZ: BIRITUÁLIS TEMETŐ TISZABURA-NAGY-GANAJOS-HÁTON Ágnes Király New evidence on the burial customs of the Gáva-culture in the Great Hungarian Plain - Biritual cemetery at Tisza- bura - Nagy-Ganajos-hát During the preliminary excavation of the Nagykunság Water Reservoir (Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok county, Hungary), a small biritual cemetery of the Gáva-culture was excavated in 2010. Despite its mere extension, the site has a great significance in the research of the burial customs of the Late Bronze Age in Eastern Hungary. Whereas research on settlement system and metalworking of the Gáva culture is greatly evolved by now, information about the burial customs of the complex is still extremely underrepresented (data concerning the different types of funerary rites and main anthropological characteristics of the period is almost completely missing). Regarding its all regional groups, we can establish that the number of known burial sites is extremely low compared to the quantity of the settlements of the Gáva-culture. Unfortunately, scholars showed low-intensity interest in this „funeral deficiency” in the last decades, and only some small-scale studies attempted to evaluate the phenomenon. These explained the lack of graves by special cultural traditions or insufficiency of research, but any of these ideas had been verified yet. Present paper examines find material and burial customs observed in the Tiszabura cemetery, and compares new evidence to other burial sites of the cultural complex known so far. Further data are published about the most recent findings of the so-called ‘‘settlement burials” (human remains found in settlement context) from the period, and a short discussion and a possible interpretation is proposed regarding the entire issue of “missing burials” of the Gáva culture.
