Régészet László Selmeczi - Géza Szabó 18th and 19th century graves unearthed in the sepulchral vault of the main church of Jászberény The unidentified 18th and 19th century graves in the crypt of the Roman Catholic Lady in Harvest church were unburied upon the request of the Roman Catholic parish-priest of Jászberény. The local museum organised the exhumation in order to save the invaluable data of local history and to explore the garment findings in a professional way, and asked for the help of archaeologist and anthropologists. However, the number and variety of pieces of attire surprised the researchers. The apparently valuable articles of clothing created with great care mirror the taste of the upper class of well-off citizens and officials of the town under the influence of baroque and rococo. During the 18th and 19th century, the attire of this social group became one of the most important examples of national dress of the Jászság region. Before this excavation, we only had few (often obscure) registry data about the early stage of this era. The recovered pieces in the heart of the Jászság region make the remarks of the written sources apparent and unequivocal, and, at the same time, they offer insight to the varied world of the attire of the area. 81
