Régészettudomány - Magdolna Vicze - Nagyrév symbolism revisited: Three decorated vessels from Százhalombatta and Dunaújváros

Régészettudomány Fig. 3.: Vessel from Százhalombatta-Földvár, with two variations of decoration. / Edény Százhalombatta-Földvárról, két motívum variációval. vessel is reconstructed, so not all decoration elements are visible, but its rhythm is clear. Originally there could have been several fields of vertical decorations framed by three incised lines starting from one side of the handle and closing in on its other side. Under the handle there is a single, incomplete motif that could be one of the typical human representations of the culture. The main recurring elements in the central decoration band are wavy lines or zig-zags in different forms. One type is made of a single line framing rows of squares or intertwined squarish pattern, or standing alone, framing or most probably giving emphasis to the centrally positioned (i.e. opposite to the handle) missing design. Another wavy line type is made from double lines. The most frequently recurring wavy pattern is a thick band of zig-zags filled with dots. Lines with dots and single dots in general seem to be applied in certain cases as punctuation of motifs, besides in some other cases being a decorative element on it own. Height: 16,5 cm; rim diameter: 14,3 cm; belly diameter: 16,1 cm; base diameter: 5 cm. Inventory number: 60.1.22.1, 311 |
