Gutay Mónika NEOLITHIC ALFÖLD LINEAR POTTERY (ALP) SITE AT THE KÁL-MAYER-TANYA Preliminary excavation results We conducted preventive excavations at the Kál-Mayer-tanya site between 16 October 2017 and 21 November 2017. Only Neolithic ALP settlement features were identified at the site. In total 141 objects were unearthed. We found 83 pits, which were probably used as storage and refuse pits. In addition, we excavated 4 clay pits, 4 wells, 43 post holes and two flexed inhumation burials. The presence of the wells could suggest the lack of natural water resources nearby. Among the artefacts, 2843 pottery fragments were probably parts of around 50 to 100 vessels. The lithic tools were based on the blade industry. The tools include end scrapers on blade, retouched flakes and blades in larger numbers. Based on 4 radiocarbon samples, the multi-phase site is dated between cal 5323-5079 BC and cal 5214-4994 BC. The artefacts of the Kál site are probably from the end of the classic ALP period or markedly from the late ALP period, which is clearly shown by the typology and decoration of the ceramics, and by the raw materials used for the lithics, tools and polished stones. 68
