MUSEUM AND REVOLUTION. THE WORK OF EGER’S DOBÓ ISTVÁN MUSEUM IN 1956 AND 1957

The years 1956 and 1957 are considered a milestone in the lile of Eger’s Dobó István Museum under Ferenc Bakos leadership. It piosed an immense challenge to move the museum into the castle and start establishing the Friends ol Eger Castle group. The study uses archival sources (correspondence by the museum) to describe the various tasks faced by the staff and the impact of the various developments during the revolution. Although members of staff did not participate actively in the October and November events, they felt it necessary to collect and preserve the relics of these historic days. That is why they started collecting these already during the revolution. They mostly included posters, leaflets and to a lesser extent photographs and objects. The amount of these artefacts called for the establishment of a separate Historical Collection. These relics are crucial documents related to the revolutionary events in Eger and the county.
