Smuczer Hanna: Fényképészek és fényképészműtermek Egerben a 19. század második és a 20. század első felében

DIV - Dobó István Vármúzeum, Eger ENA - Egri Néprajzi Adattár TFD - Történeti Fotódokumentáció Hanna Smuczer PHOTOGRAPHERS AND PHOTOGRAPHY STUDIOS IN EGER IN THE SECOND HALF OF THE 19th AND THE FIRST HALF OF THE 20th CENTURY The first Hungarian photo studios were opened in the 1840s in Pest, so it is no surprise that there was no local photographer in Eger in the 1840s and 1850s. In the last third of the 19th century seven photographers opened studios in Eger while at the beginning of the 20th century the number was ten to eleven. In the early period of photography, in the 1860s, Eger had two photo studios, owned by Ferencz Kovács and József Mihály, operating for about a decade. Pictures taken during the 1860s show the nobles, the towns elite and the aristocrats. The 1870s was the age of visiting photographers, with many new studios being set up. Apart from local photographer Lipót Záhor, six well-known photographers opened temporary studios here. The 1880s and 1890s was the era of photographers settling in Eger. In 1881 the Perlgrund family moved here from the capital to open their studio and 1890 saw the arrival of another photographer, József Kiss. In 1893 the Gráf family also moved here from Vienna. Rudolf Gráf s studio was run by his daughter, Leopoldina Gráf until 1973. Photographer Dénes Rónai moved to Eger at the turn of the century. Fiis business operated for three decades, until 1910, after which it was taken over by his younger brother Hajnal Rónai. Their studio was in a shed, in the garden of the house at no. 7 Széchenyi Street. After the death of Hajnal Rónai it was run by his son, András, however I have no further data on him or his studio dated after the year 1938. There were usually two or three photographic studios in Eger at one time, because the demand from the town and the surrounding areas was not enough to support any more. 572
