EGER-RELATED ARTEFACTS FROM A GERMAN HISTORICAL COLLECTION

The historical collections (portraits, maps, old publications, archived documents) of the Franckesche Stiftungen in Halle have a special role in the history of Hungarian-German relations. The towns university, founded in 1694, was one of the most influential universities in the 18th century, which was visited by many peregrines from Hungary. This East-German town saw the emergence of such diverse collections, established by and for these visitors, which contain a large number of written, printed and engraved Hungaricums. These include paintings, illustrations, printed texts, letters and other types of relics related to Eger. The study is the summary of the research on Hungaricums, conducted by the author in Germany over eight years, which not only presents the milestones of the Halle-Hungary relations, but also reveals rarities, previously unknown to the researchers of the field and the literature.
