Kecskemét Edit Haider The Toy Plans of József Stippek in the Hungarian National Museum The Stippek brothers offered their collections preserved in the family for the Hungarian National Museum in the 1960s. The great-grandfather settled down in Pest from Austria in 1780, the grandfather opened a restaurant in Üllői Rd, and clad his son in a Hungarian garment. From the 1860s they gradually became more and more Hungarian, local patriots in Józsefváros (a quarter in Budapest). Besides collecting relics from WWI, data of Józsefváros history and church wooden sculptures the architect József also designed board games in the 1930s. The scenes of his game plans are Budapest, the 8th District Józsefváros, the amusement park, the Buda Hunting Park of King Matthias, the excursion destinations nearby Buda (Dobogókő, Svábhegy) and Lake Balaton. At the explanation of game rules, he gives precise information on geography, history, local knowledge and national monuments, where possible. His Svábhegy tourist game plan (1935), which is a classic game played with dice and coins titled “Budai Hegyvidék tourist game”, came out by the well-known toy tradesman and publisher Zsigmond Liebner, drawn by the noted graphic Jenő Pályi.
