Erzsébet Györgyi From international Children’s day to national toy museums The importance of museum toy collections, the exhibitions made from them and the programmes focusing on them has increased so much in our country, that this topic could be the subject of museologists’ training courses. The professional management of public collection also regarded it essential to expose the histori­cal, museological, public education and pedagogical knowledge collected with the object of dissemination among museum experts. Its rich toy collection, the perfect exhibition created from it and its availability for professionals made the István Dobó Castle Museum a suitable place for this event. After the great interest in children culture at the beginning of the century, in­terest towards toy culture and the museum display of toys were overshadowed. Only personal ambition in the 1960s, and then the International Children’s Day declared in 1979 brought changes, the latter induced numerous museum exhibi­tions, and became the initiator of a significant specialist literary upswing. This favourable process was assisted by the formation and coming to the fore of private collections, as well as personal interests and intentions. The Szórakaté- nusz Toy Museum and Workshop (Szórakaténusz Játékmúzeum és Műhely) - the first Hungarian toy museum established in 1981 was a great leap forward.
