Szojka Emese: Babák és játékok - a tárgyhalmozás esete

Emese Sztojka Dolls and Toys Case study on accumulation of objects The article presents a private collection located in a Hungarian village. The owner is an elderly, retired woman. The speciality of the collection is that it contains nearly uncountable number of objects, mostly dolls. Apart from the doll collection a huge number of other objects is also stored in the flat: ornaments, souvenirs, photos, paintings. The study is searching an answer for the phenomenon of overwhelming the whole flat by objects, supported by data of the family history and the personal career of the owner. The phenomenon is explained by the mentality and the taste of the lower middle class in general as well as the particular habits of the family and the personal way of living of the owner. An important conclusion is, that the value system of the lower middle class, having been formed during the period between the two world wars, survived also in the Kádár era. 117
