Szalainé Király Júlia: Dávidkáné és Az öreg tekintetes - A hétköznapi történéseken túlmutató sorsok Gárdonyi kisregényeiben

Júlia Szalainé Király Mrs Davidka (Dávidkáné) and The Old Gentleman (Az öreg tekintetes) The fates beyond everyday events in Gárdonyi's novels The works mentioned in the title were written by Géza Gárdonyi when he was still searching for his own voice, elaborating his writing methodology. His Master Exercise Books (Mesterfüzet) with his cryptogram has not yet been written, but the master-strokes were being formed in his mind. Both works are perfect préfigurations of the latter Gárdonyi oeuvre. The novels are closely linked to the works of The Eclipse of the Crescent Moon (Egri csillagok). Mrs Davidka was born in need, and it was practically written "instead of' The Eclipse of the Crescent Moon. The Old Gentleman was a product of the resting period after writing The Eclipse of the Crescent Moon. With writing Mrs Davidka Gárdonyi could practice hi story-writing, while The Old Gentleman gave a lot of experience in forming characters. In the short novels told, the specific life situations cover a general, universal message, and the messages reveal a few secrets of a fulfilled and happy human life. In Mrs Davidka history is not a scene, but a natural agent, so much so that very often it affects the lives and prosperity of the characters or changes their lives and future. The story of Andor Kis and Ilona Tegzős is the story of the ridden and the outcast. There are life situations where the only solution is escape. The fate of every person without motive, deluded, losing their independence is contained in the tragedy of The Old Gentleman. 409
