Gy. Gömöri Ilona: Az aratás szokásai, az aratóünnepek funkcióváltásai Dél-Hevesben

Gy. Ilona Gömöri The Customs of Harvest, the Function Changes of Harvest Festivals in Southern Heves County In the southern part of Heves County the main branch of agriculture was crop growing, which in its scale far exceeds national and county average. Harvest traditions of the seventeen villages in Heves area (Atány, Boconád, Erdőtelek, Erk, Heves, Hevesvezekény, Kisköre, Kömlő, Pély, Tarnabod, Tárnáméra, Tarnaörs, Tarnaszentmiklós, Tarnazsadány, Tenk, Tiszanána, Zaránk) were mainly determined by typical local estate types, while the function changes of custom elements were influenced by leaders of the local social and cultural life. During harvest time about 200 people were employed in seasonal work in Heves and Pély at the Szász Coburg Gotha manor, in Tárnáméra at the Hirsch manor, in Kisköre and Tiszanána at the Szatmári Roman Catholic bishopric manor. From June to August the collective work complete with threshing and coexistence made it possible for the customs to be born. The customs of harvest went through several function changes from the beginning of the 20 t h century up to present days. The harvest thanksgiving days established by regulations of secretary Ignác Darányi essentially differed from the genuine harvest festivals based on production. The harvest processions completed with spectacular marches and play-like elements within the area had their greatest tradition in Heves from 1923 to 1948. The festival was gradually enriched with political content, and thus became a religious and social event. Another function change of harvest festivals appeared from the end of the 1950s in the form of harvest banquets organised in collective farms, where the purpose was to ensure a public entertaining occasion. By the beginning of the 21 s l century traditional cultivation totally changed, present day harvest festivals represent the recent adaptation of traditional harvest festivals, which musters custom elements taken from tradition in idealised form, but hardly alike in their appearances to the harvest festivals of the first half of the 20 t h century. 305
