Domán Júlia: Adatok Bukát Ferenc hatvani fazekasmester munkásságáról és műhelyéről

Júlia Domán The Hatvan Master Potter Ferenc Bukát: His Work and His Workshop In January 1973 the Hatvan Museum purchased the tools and the equipment belonging to Ferenc Bukát's pottery workshop. Until his death in June 1972, the master had been the last potter to be active in the town. Ferenc Bukát was born in Gyöngyös in 1890. It was there that he served his apprenticeship before settling in Hatvan in 1922. Although it was mainly flowerpots, plates, dishes, jugs, bowls and jam pots that he made, he was also involved in tilemaking and the making of decorative objects that he fashioned with his own hands. In old age he only made things for museums. The pottery Ferenc Bukát made tended to be storage and ornamental vessels made from non-fire resistant clay. In the ethnographical collection of the Lajos Hatvany Museum you can find thirty of his pieces, whose basic glaze is generally yellow, light brown or white, while the rims are decorated with leaves accompanied by blue, white and pink flowers executed in simple brushwork. His monochrome pots and bowls are covered in yellow, yellowy-green or brown glazes both inside and out. We also have the recipes for the glazes which he entered in his notebook in 1921. 282
