Csiffáry Gergely: Csodaforrások, szentkutak emlékei Heves megyében
ZARNÓCZKI Attila [2002] Feldebrő. Szerk.: Bán Péter. Száz Magyar Falu Könyvesháza sorozat. Budapest. Gergely Csiffáry Miraculous Springs and Holy Wells in Heves County The churches, chapels, and pilgrimage places and other religious sites, and the holy wells belonging to them, have inspired no end of legends. In the legends relating to pilgrimage places you can often hear of miraculous cures which the humble worshipper has attributed to the waters of the nearby holy wells. This study it is hoped will contribute to the history and ethnography of pilgrimage, and research into popular folk religion in Hungary. The author focuses on eight pilgrimage places in Heves County, each associated with miraculous springs, most of which acquired their importance as pilgrimage places during the course of the 18th and 19th centuries. One site, however, only gained such a status following the Second World War. For the religious believer pilgrimage places acquire their importance for the miraculous events that occurred there, as well as any associated cures and stories, rather than any official sanction bestowed upon them by the church. The study introduces readers to all Heves County's holy wells, which are all, with two exceptions, Marian shrines. This reflects the dominance of the cult of the Blessed Virgin Mary in pilgrimage traditions in Hungary. 423
