The elements making up the harvest celebrations and parades always reflected the spirit of the age, and although they were occasionally updated, they always celebrated the end of a job well done, and all the boundless joy and merriment that went with it. While the earlier celebrations took place in the vineyards, from the middle of the 19th century the venue had changed, having moved instead into the town, where the various associations and organisations held their parades and balls. 403
