level, to the point that the county regularly receives recognition for its achievements in all the various traditional handicrafts. The processing work which has taken place has led to the establishment of a unusual organisational arrangement covering the museum(s), the Ferenc Kölcsey County Arts Centre, the Hajdú-Bihar County Branch of the Association Folk Art Societies and the Association. By recognising the various needs, centres were set up at the Debrecen workshop representing numerous craft activities (weaving, lacemaking), as a result of which Debrecen and the county as a whole has become the venue of various events and workshops.The county continues to enjoy a leading position in the teaching of the handicrafts at the special schools set up for the purpose within the Hungarian educational system, as well as in the fields of teacher-training and the publication of specialist literature. These initiatives all make up a substantial part of the museum staffs duties. 396
