H. Szilasi Ágota: Az egri vár és hősei a képzőművészetben

gives the topic an impressionistic treatment more typical of the Secession style than the historicism of the works produced earlier. At the beginning of the 20 th century Alajos Stróbl produced Eger's Dobó statue. The sculpture was paid for by public subscription, a cause supported by Géza Gárdonyi who was still a resident in Eger. György Zala's relief depicting the siege of Eger was made during the 1920s for the Millennium monument. The relief beside the southern gate is the work of István Tarr and Gyula Illés, produced to mark the four hundredth anniversary of the siege in 1952, as indeed was the enormous canvas in the ceremonial chamber of the town hall painted to the designs of Mihály Kátai senior. György Ruzicskai's Eger battle scene of 1938 was presented to the István Dobó Castle Museum on the occasion of the 450 th anniversary of the siege. The study mentions Zsigmond Kisfaludi Strobl's battle scene which can now be seen in Dobó tér, Gábor Dénes 's fresco secco which can be seen in the Dobó Grammar School and Sándor Bodó's Paintbrush-Written History (2000). We conclude with Ágoston Pusztai's statue of Sebestyén Tinódi Lantos which was unveiled on the 450 th anniversary of the siege. 308
