Pozder Péter: A vár Eger város imázsában

Péter Pozder Eger Castle as Part of the Image of the Town This study is part of a much larger OTKA project (no. T01537) whose aim has been to draw up a complex image of Eger. Eger, which is also a significant county town in its own right, is also an historical town ranked amongst Hungary's major tourist destinations. The residents of the town and the town's visitors see the town in two very different ways. There is no one "objective" way of seeing the town, everybody has their very own image of what the town is. The main aim of the research was to produce an image of the town unlike any other previously drawn. The image of the town needs to take several factors into consideration, creating an image which works on many different levels: on a virtual level, as a map, on a conceptual level, on a symbolic level, as well as on a level of complex sensitivity. Apart from analysing the views of residents and tourists the study looks at the image of the town as expressed in poetry, as well as the role the castle has in affecting the image of the town. 239
