Bakó Ferenc: Eger ismeretlen látképe Londonban

Ferenc Bakó AN UNKNOWN VIEW OF THE EGER CASTLE IN LONDON Among the archive manuscripts of the British Library the author has found in an album of the year 1650, demonstrating many prints of Hungary, a view of Eger. In his study he wishes to analyse the mode of representation, the circumstances of provenance as well as its relation to other views, known before. The veduta shows a close relationship to the two prints of the XVI. century, the publishing of which is connected with the name of Houfnagel. As result of the comparison of the London veduta and the prints of Houfnagel, the author came to the conclusion, that the London veduta is of an earlier provenance than the other two. But the closer date of origin cannot be determined. To achieve this, it would be necessary to examine the other representations of the London album. Doing so, one might be able to deduce, who the maker was. In any case the discovery of the London veduta is a gain to the representations connected with the famous Hungarian castle as well as to the historical literature and the author expresses also in this way his acknowledgement, due to the British Library Board, for giving their consent to the publishing of abovementioned veduta. 91
