REPORT ON THE SCIENTIFIC AND POPULAR EDUCATIONAL WORK OF THE MUSEUM ORGANIZATION IN 1968 In 1968 the Museum Organization of County Heves comprised the following units: Dobó István Castle Museum of Eger, the headquarters of the organization at the same time ; Mátra Museum of Gyöngyös ; the Pâlots House of Párád, a restored popular monument ; the Blacksmith's Shop of Verpelét, a popular monument of trade-historic value; and the Local Historical Collection of Tárnáméra. Among the collections of the Eger Museum, the Gárdonyi Géza Memorial Museum enjoys a measure of independence. A new unit was added to our Organization in 1968; a garden with ruins and an exhibition on local history were opened to the public on a territory surrounding the Castle of Kisnána on August 4th. Development and expansion of the County Museum network were served by organizational work started some years ago and carried on by the workers of the Eger Museum also during 1968. These activities included the clarification of the legal and economic status, the creation of conditions for operation of the Museum of Hatvan and the Public Collection of Heves. They included the making accessible of the Cistercian Abbey Church of Bélapátfalva, organization of the exhibition site at the excavated and preserved ruins of the medieval monastery. And finally they included the selection and incorporation in the organization of further units of the open-air museum network. According to plans, the open-air museum network will integrate into a unit the popular and trade monuments of County Heves by taking over the buildings into public ownership and by utilizing them through the museum administration. Up to now two units of the network have been opened to the public, one at Párád, the other at Verpelét ; explorative work aimed at the expansion of the network will be carried on during the year at Noszvaj, Átány and Mikófalva. The average strength of the staff of the County Organization was 70 in the last year. 15 of them held full-time jobs, 55 held part-time jobs. The bulk of the staff consisted of employees who took care of the museum collections, assisted in arranging their display and did charring work.
