Berecz Barbara: Az egri vár 2017-es feltárásának Árpád-kori kármia anyaga
BERECZ BARBARA RÖVIDÍTÉSEK DIV RA DOBÓ ISTVÁN VÁRMÚZEUM RÉGÉSZETI ADATTÁR (EGER) Barbara Berecz THE ÁRPÁDIA.N AGE CERAMICS FINDS OF THE 2017 EXCAVATIONS IN EGER CASTLE The goal of my study is to conduct the preliminary evaluation of the Árpádian Age ceramics, discovered during the preventive archaeological excavations in Eger Castle in 2017, and to draw the relevant conclusions in terms of architectural history. Connected to the planned renovation of the castle, archaeological digs began in the spring of 2017 within the cooperation of the Dobó Castle Museum and the Matthias Rex Museum of the Hungarian National Museum. The excavations, led by Gergely Búzás, successfully clarified several hypotheses relating to the Árpádian Age history ofEger Castle. I start my paper with an introduction on the history of research, using the recollections of János Kárpáti. In the second half I examine the Árpádian Age ceramics finds, unearthed during the archaeological excavations of the castle in 2017.1 focus on the trenches, where new discoveries were made on the architectural history of the medieval episcopal see ofEger. During the control excavation, conducted on the western part of the cathedral, which was partially excavated previously by Károly Kozák, we identified the 11 th-century predecessor of Eger s episcopal see. We found the south-western corner of the perimeter wall of the 13th-century episcopal castle in the trench, dug in front of the western facade of the building which later became the stewards palace. 107
