OROSS ANDRAS: Kaszámyaépítések a töröktől visszafoglalt várakban a 17-18. század fordulóján
Ari drás Oros s BARRACKS CONSTRUCTION AT THE TURN OF THE 18™ CENTURY IN THE REOCCUPIED TERRITORY CASTLES According to the literature both in Hungary and abroad it was in the middle of the 18th century that barracks construction took place to any great extent within the Habsburg Monarchy. It is the aim of this study to trace the process by which accommodation was built for soldiers in the castles of the reoccupied lands of the Kingdom of Hungary. The need for accommodation then led to standing army regiments being housed in newly constructed barracks. While in the 1680s it was merely a question of increasing the number of living quarters for the military, around the turn of the century the construction of barracks acquired the status of a central “programme”. A whole series of barracks were built in Buda, Eszék, Lipótvár, Esztergom, Szeged and Szolnok. In our paper light is not only shed on the position of the barracks in the town, but also on the way such buildings were arranged internally. 145
