Agnes Dukkon: INFORMATIONS IN THE CALENDAR’ CHRONOLOGIES ABOUT THE STRUGGLES AGAINST THE TURKISH AND HABSBURG RULES AND THE DEMOLITION OF THE FORTRESSES BETWEEN 1650-1711 This study gives a survey about the decisive events of the Hungarian history in the second half of the 17th century and of the early 18th century, reflected in the calendar’chronologies, edited by different printing houses. We can esteem these chronologies as the early examples of the mass media: they communicate the various informations, form the meanings about the political, diplomatic and military events - on the basic of the authentic and unreliable sources. We investigated calenders edited in the next printing offices of old Hungary and Transylvania: Bártfa (Bartfeld, Bardejov, SK), Debrecen, Kolozsvár (Cluj-Napoka, RU), Nagyszeben (Hermannstadt, Sibiu, RU), Lőcse (Leutschau, Levoca, SK), Komárom, Nagyszombat (Tmau, Tmava, SK), Trencsén (Trencin, SK), Várad (Oradea, RU), Zsolna (Zilina, SK). Our paper deals with the following themes of chronologies: the battles agains Turks from the 1680-ies, the events of the counter-reformation, the fights between the Hungarian insurrectionists (’kuruc’) and pro-Austrian (’labanc’) troops in the Transylvanian and Uplands’ (Felföld) settlements, the comments on the war of independents commanded by Ferenc Rákóczi II. In the calendar chronologies from the last decades of the 17th century we can find short informations - without comments - about the demolition of border castles and fortresses (Kanizsa, Szatmár, Tokaj, Patak, Karánsebes, Ecsed etc.). I try to quot many records directly from the chronologies, because I consider these printings very valuable sources for the historiography. 125
