Indirectly, the diversity of the flora and the fauna (species number (14 species) and evenness (Fig. 3.) here are the highest) may cause the segregation of Area 5. Most species belongs to the open group (Table 2). Granaria frumentum (Draparnaud, 1801) and Truncatellina cylindrica (Férussac, 1807) prefer the extremely dry and sparse Area 2, Helicella obvia (Menke, 1828) and Vallonia pulchella (O.F. Müller, 1774) prefer grasslands like Area 1 and 6. Vallonia costata (O.F. Müller, 1774), Pupilla triplicata (Studer, 1820) and Cochlicopa lubricella (Porro, 1838) are the characteristic species of the E rocky grassland and the shrub-grassland mosaic on the E ridge. Only fossil or subfossil individuals of Chondrula tridens (O.F. Müller, 1774) were found from loess, despite previous works (Gebhardt, 1958, Kovács, Gy.-Richnovszky, A. 1989) mentioned the xerophilous species from Szársomlyó. Two species belong to the open-transitional group. The relative frequency of Zebrina detrita
