262 JÁNOS CSEH A LATE IRON AGE HOUSE FROM THE FIELD OF KENGYEL (CONTRIBUTION TO THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE CELTIC SETTLEMENT BUILDINGS) In the north-western part of the field of Kengyel village (Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok county), on the outer high-lying bank of the old Tisza-bed I managed to localize a Celtic settlement in the years 1992-1993. The arhaeological-topographical point is to be found between the Fehér- and the Vighhomestead. The name of the site is, going by the former, Kengyel-Fehér-homestead. Excavating onto the features having brought to the surface after the ploughing, detail of a house deepened into the ground came to light. The quadrangular building (hut) directed towards west-east could be of 2,4 meter times about 3-3,5 meter size, the half of that was documented approximately. At the eastern, shorter side-wall (not in middle axis) I opened a post hole with average measure as a feature relating to the roofing bond of prop-purlin. During the excavation relatively few finds could be gathered by me from the 3 rd-1 st B. C, nevertheless the house can well be dated. In the series of the wheel-turned, brown, fine pottery apart from the side fragments there are occurring some swollen, everted rims and details of bottoms with disc or support ring as shards being mostly of bowls, perhaps of else forms. Among the coarse potsherds (vessels) made by hands only we find ones decorated with rib and typical simple brims (pot-resp. mug-like clay products). Pieces of hand mill resp. grinding stone were also collected. Wattle/s/ and daubs, animal bones as well as other ceramics of the Prehistoric Age complement the find material. According to the observations having done on the site we are driven to the conclusion that here there is some talk of a Celtic settlement in the nature of farmstead.
