TÜNDE HORVÁTH—MIKLÓS KOZÁK-ANNA PETŐ FACTUAL INFORMATION FOR RESEARCHING BRONZE AGE STONE INSTRUMENTS (THE STONE FIND OF THE SZÁZHALOMBATTA-FÖLDVÁR BRONZE AGE STRATUM) It is common knowledge for all archeologists that the topic of stone instrument use in the Paleolithic Age has been-or, is being-thoroughly researched and exhausted in Hungary. Recently, due to the hard work of some enthusiastic and excellent researchers, we have learned about outstanding achievements concerning the same topic in the Neolithic, too. Nonetheless, what is the situation like concerning the time periods before the Neolithic Age? In the light of the professional publications, it seems as though the use of stone for the purposes of instruments had been totally relegated in metal cultures. Yet what do we find if we take the time to have a look around in the crammed and oftentimes poorly cataloged store rooms of museums? - Just the opposite. We may discover that it is not only the sheer volume of stone instruments that is surprising but that the use that they were put to must also have been fairly diverse (chipped flint implements of variuos functions, polished axes, chisels, hammers, grindstones, weights, amulets and pieces of jewelry, whetstones, casting molds, pottery smoothers, building debris) and thus, they can serve as valuable additions to traditional objects of research.
