Rezi Kató Gábor: Adalékok a középső rézkor hitvilágához
128 GÁBOR REZI KATÓ CONTRIBUTIONS TO OUR PERCEPTION OF THE BODY OF BELIEFS IN THE MIDDLE COPPER AGE As opposed to the numerous artifacts found to be ralated to religious beliefs in the Late Neolithic, the frequency of emergence of similar types of finds from the Early and Middle Copper Age in the Carpathian Basin decreases to a great extent. This hypothesis formulated by researchers 15-20 years ago has not since been refuted by the finds of the time period that has elapsed. According to yet another viewpoint that has been around for a long time, the above phenomenon cannot be simply considered to have been just a "change of rites" but rather, it goes back to to the separation of sacral and profane activities and objects. It implies that sacral activities have a definite and specific location, i.e. they take place in a sacral environment. The findings from the time period which are related to the beliefs and religious ideas can be divided roughly into two basic groups: - Artifacts, which are rather modest, both as far as their sheer number and the number of their different types go. - A more significant group is perhaps made up of the objects that can be proved to have belonged to the religious ideas of the time period. An important source for archeological and religio-historical information could be represented by the finding that was excavated more than a hundred years ago at the Tiszazug Szelevény but, due to the differing chronological assumptions concerning it, it has not yet entered the scope of research dealing with the relevant time period.
