Mező Szilveszter szerk.: Hátizsákkal és bakancsban a Föld körül. Balázs Dénes világjáró geográfus (Debrecen, 2007)

Around the Globe in trekking boots and with backpack

Dénes Balázs with a giant monitor lizard (Varanus sp.) in Gabon, Central Africa botanical, and ethnographical collective work during the course of his "one-man expeditions" to the least explored and accessible parts of the world. His field trips yielded the discovery of numerous novelties for the individual disciplines in science. Among the tropical moss species and subterranean animals sent home by him, there were several previously unknown species now duly described and presented. In 1983, Dénes Balázs finally managed to realize his old dream, which had also been cherished as a wish by other geographers in Hungary for so long: he established and arranged Magyar Földrajzi Gyűjtemény [Hungarian Geographical Collection], which later got promoted to the rank of a museum. This collection located at Érd has been collecting, preserving, and processing the best individual historical exhibits of the field of Hungarian geography ever since, offering a chance to visitors to find out about the exemplary work of our most significant geographers and most famous travelers.
