Jósa Miklós - Ulrich Attila: A németszőgyéni és bánházi Jósa család története (Régi magyar családok 3. Debrecen, 2005)

Summary

Members of the Jósa de Németszögyén clan of today are all direct desendants of Mihály Jósa, son of Miklós and brother of the above mentioned István. We have always found it important to sort out why Mihály renounced his landed properties he inherited from his mother, why he disapeared from most of the written documents of the family around the years of the birth of his son, and if he in fact had only one son and no other children, etc. Interestingly enough descendants of the daughters of István believed his line to have gone extinct without male progeny. Since the above is in vivid contrast with our findings, we can proudly say that systematic research can prove the existence of and shed light on things that seemed to have faded generations before. To the best of our knowledge the above Mihály was the adjutant that mentions in his book as a military staff who alledgedly defected to the Hapsburgs during the last minutes of the battle of Trencsény as part of the Rákóczi Freedom Fight in the 18 th century. We have managed to confirm that after having dispossessed some of his ancestral landed properties he eventually migrated to the neighboring Ugocsa County and built up a military career with the Hapsburgs. His only son first followed his steps and managed to become the member of the highly esteemed Body Guard of Maria Theresa. To become a member of the guard was always a privlege held for the aristocracy. After saying good bye to the guard he took the financial superintendant position responsible for the estates of Count Károlyi he made friends with as a bodyguard. From that time on taking financial or economic positions (for the aristocracy or the government or private enterpises) has been running in the family. The 1700s and 1800s had wittnessed repeated migrations of the family. They ended up living in Orosháza, Tótmegyer, Nagykáta, Zsámbok and Budapest. It is the greater metropolitan area of Budapest where members of the Jósa de Németszögyén extended family live today. We could not help channelling some of our energy into solving a dilemma that has been long standing and widely discussed by those interested in geneology. Namely are the Jósa de Németszögyén and the Jósa de Nagybánya families related at all?
