NÁNÁSI OLÁH MIHÁLY, CAPTAIN-GENERAL OF THE HEYDUOK-DISTRICT 1760—1838 — Miklós Nyakas — In his work the author undertook to show the way of life a heyduckpolitician about whom we have known almost nothing so far, but whose activity has great importance in the life of the heyduck-towns. He came from a long line of hey duck-families of old nobility. His ancestors were the heyduck-nobles of István Bocskai, the Prince of Transylvania, but they got also an individual letter patent of nobility from Gábor Bethlen, the Prince of Transylvania, then from I. Leopold, too. So according to their legal status they were in the most advantageous position. All this greatly helped Nánási Oláh Mihály's political career, too. In 1792 the general assembly of the Heyduck-district trusted him with getting the list of the heyduck's names privileged by Bocskai back from Csanády (third) Sámuel captain-general's widow. It would have had great importance from the point of view of possessions of the heyduck-towns Though it wasn't successful Nánási Oláh Mihály made attempts at elearing it up in another way, too. As a vice-captain of the district he took an active part in building the registered offices of the Heyduck-district. In 1809 the captain-general till then died, so shortly became necessary to replace him. Election of the captain-general came within the compe85
