Though the Hungarian Soviet Republic held its own against the imperia­list aggression in Debrecen —because of the geographical situation of the town —the power of the working class lasted for 1 month. 2. show: After the supression of the Soviet Republic the terror-called White Ter­ror —could disentangle neither the economical difficulties and nor could cover up the memory of the workers state. The orginazing continued within the compass of the legal social democratic party. It is attested by the here presented leftist papers read in Debrecen. 13. tableau: Debrecen in the Interwar Period The „Margaret", the Margaret-public bath was the centre of the labour mo­vement of Debrecen in the interwar period. At the time of the great economic crisis the town had the Museum „Déri", the building of the university and the stadium built from foreign loans. 4. enteriőr We exhibit the kitchen of Mihály Tóth's flat. The members of the one of Debrecen organizations of the illegal communist party used to gather here in the thirties. 14. tableau: Literary Life in the Thirties The Ady-society —established by progressive intellektuals in 1927— shouldered the fostering and the popularizing of Ady's spirit. 15. tableau: March Front The establishing of the March Front in 1937 was the first result of the Hungarian Popular Front Policy. One of its strong organizations was estab­lished in Debrecen, the paper of which the „Continue" played an important part in the clearing up the purely academic questions of the popular front movement. 3. show — 16—11 tableaus: Debrecen in World war II, the Regeneration The second World War brought terrible decay for Debrecen too. But the new life started quickly. In December 1944 Debrecen for the second time became the revolutionary capital of the country. 18—19. tableaus: Temporary National Assembly, Repartition of Land On 21th December 1944 the Temporary National Assembly gathered in the oratory of Reformed College and declared itself to be the sole agent of the state sovereignty. 406
