Vezető a Déri Múzeum kiállításaihoz (Debrecen, 1978)
English Summary
Besides some pieces from the 18th century (corner lettel file, coat-racks, painted pictures) the first half of the 19th century is represented by a great number of pieces of furniture (tester bed, chairs to sit and think on them, table, chest painted with tulips, cradle, wardrobe, etc.) The kitchen shows the utensils and objects of the house having an open fire in the centre and an open chimney characteristic of the 18th century, indicating that they may have been collected from distant territories by way of the markets in Debrecen. The objects of the outhouse or little house are even more archaistic, including the one-time peasant objects superseded from the room as early as the 19th century (loom, kneading utensils, cabbage-cutter, ancient timbered chests, archaistic earthen vessels, etc.). DEVELOPMENT OF THE CAPITALISM The final gallery of our historical exhibition shows the history of Debrecen from the failure of the struggle for liberation to the development of the socialist town. 1. tableau: Debrecen is during the Absolutism For the first time we remember the victims of absolutism following the struggle for liberation. On the first tableau two pictures are seen about Mihály Könyves Tóth— the Debrecen reformed clergyman and army chaplain of the struggle for liberation —which were made in Olmiitz, where he spent his confinement in a castle till 1856. The carved relic repository contains the bones of Lajos Aulich's one of the Hungarian generals executed in Arad. 2—3. tableau: Development of the Capitalism In the second part of the 19th century the industry of Debrecen was also characterized by the guild system. One of beautiful piece of the historical relics of the guild-system is the chest of burial society of the maker of frieze „guba" from 1864. The sign boards of individual guilds are also beautiful relics of guilds. The out-of-date guild system was dissolved in 1872 at last. The industrial corporations replacing the guilds didn't fulfil expectations. The development was promoted by the growth of railway buildings. 4. tableau: Debrecen in the Dualistic era The compromise of 1867 meant closing of revolution in 1848 „from above". The Austro-Hungarian Monarchy didn't realize the demand of the independent Hungarian state, but gave an impulse to the capitalistic development of economy. But this development beared a lot of marks of backward403
