From the settlement near the Debrecen Brick-Work Factory (3rd—4th c.;) (vitrine 18.) smaller and bigger pots, used on the settlements, were dug out, (fig. 13.) The Tumulus Burial of the Sarmatics Living on the Great Plain, (vitrine 19.) From the finds unearthed in Hortobágy-Poroshát in the 1910s we have diplayed those ones which can be bound —according to our present know­ledge —to the Sarmatic Jazig's Roxolan kindred people. The cemetery was built up from 11 tumulus. On fig 14. a red-coloured fired-clay lamp can be seen, which is also a grave furniture. The Gepids 3rd—6th c. (vitrines 20—22.) The most significant villages of the German Gepids known today were situated on the surrounding of Ártánd—Biharkeresztes. In Ártánd Kis­farkasdomb we have excavated the cemetery of their armed middle layer, (vitrine 20.) We have displayed the most charasteristic pieces of furniture —weapons, jewels —of the male and female graves. In the course of the 5th century their culture undergoes a considerable change. The local Sarma­tic and various German traditions disappear and a unifying material and mental culture occupies its place. This is reflected on the finds of Bihar­keresztes —Ártánd-Nagyfarkasdomb. (vitrine 21.) Besides the imported Roman objects (fig. 15.) one can also study the varied formal riches of pottery, (fig. 16.) To the beginning of the 6th century the Gepids' culture, reflected in apparel, pottery and generally in archeological finds, in fully developed, (vitrine 22.) The displayed fibula decorated with precious stone may have belonged to a woman's costume. New forms became general in pottery, (fig. 17.) The Avar Empire (vitrine 23—25.) The early Avars' cavalry following the nomadic organism consisted of lightly and heavyly armed soldiers. Their weapons are the armour in plates, sword, spear and reflexbow. The men wore belts decorated with ornamented buckle and mountings to hang their weapons on them. (fig. 18.) The women's jewels were the earclips and bracelets. There are very frequently Byzantine goods gained as tribute or plunder among them. The Middle and Late Avars (vitrine 24.) The population appearing about 670 many times can be found together in their cementeries the Late Avars characterized by the griffin and tendril moulded mountings, (figures 19., 20. a —b., 21.)
