Szászfalvi THE DIMENSIONS OF REFORMED RELIGIOUS TOURISM AND THE CENTENNIAL JUBILEES OF THE REFORMATION It is common knowledge that the macro-economic changes that came in the wake of the change in the political system in Hungary and the country's accession to the European Union significantly restructured economic and societal processes at a local level. Thus, it can be regarded as a natural development that more and more towns and villages that formally made their living exclusively from agricultural production now try to 'sell' their cultural heritage, i.e. they are trying to 'redefine their identity'. The communities of the Reformed church are also doing their utmost to adjust to the societal expectations and changing demands of tourism that arose as a result of the aforementioned processes. Their efforts aimed at satisfying the newly emerging needs by integrating into local tourism through attracting visitors to their sights and initiating new tourism development projects can be called a characteristic trend. My study addresses the following issues: changes in the concept of religious tourism, which has been enjoying increasing popularity over the last few decades; opportunities in tourism for the Reformed parishes; new needs of tourists visiting the town; the role played by religious holidays in tourism as well as their potential utilisation; and the centennial jubilees linked to the Reformation.
