Nyárutó név nélkül Hajnalka Keonch Ferencné Gellér THE UNKNOWN ÁRPÁD TÓTH From the autumn of 1909 to the summer of 1910, a humour magazine edited in Debrecen titled "Dongó"[Bumblebee] published spicy theatre news, wordplays, sketch poems, and entertaining pieces with the signature of a certain "Pinguin". József Pálfy, a journalist from Debrecen, uncovered the mystery of "Pinguin" in his manuscript concerning journalism history: it was none other than Árpád Tóth, the renowned poet, who hid behind the cover. The aim of this study is to prove this piece of information, which was published by the journalist who knew Árpád Tóth personally. One of the indirect pieces of evidence which imply that the author of "Pinguin's"works was indeed Árpád Tóth is the scientifically proved fact that later he published literary pieces under the pen-names "Arpetto"and "Torpedó". He used these pen-names in the journal titled "Debreczeni Nagy Újság", which was established in 1911, and in its humour supplement, "Ludas Matyi". Given their themes and satiric portrayals, the "Pinguin"sketches and commentaries can be considered as the forerunners of the "Arpetto"and "Torpedó"sketches and satires. Between 17 October 1909 and 10 July 1910, the "Dongó"magazine published 127 works with the signature "Pinguin"; later, in the spring of 1911 two works, and in the autumn of 1913 a poem were also published. We have ventured to present a few of the many sources. Árpád Tóth's recently discovered set of works cannot be regarded as great an accomplishment as his poetry, but they shed a different light on his career.
