ILYÉS GYULA ÉS DEBRECEN 225 lennek tartja, akárcsak az 1950-es évekbeli drámavilágának tematikáját, az öregkori versek pedig, amint azt a felhozott és elemzett darabok bizonyítják, kevés hagyományos lírai jelleget hordoznak, már-már átcsapnak az értekezés beszédmódjába. „Szabálytalan" műfajiság jellemzi regényeit is: inkább társadalmi, történelmi és lélektani analízisek, semmint cselekményes történetek. Debrecen Város Tanácsának Végrehajtó bizottsága 1983-ban utcát nevezett el „a magyar irodalom kiemelkedő alakjáról" az Akadémia kertben. 2002. szeptember 27-én, Illyés Gyula születésének centenáriuma alkalmából a Debreceni Egyetem Magyar és Összehasonlító Irodalomtudományi Intézete, a Magyar Irodalomtörténeti Társaság Hajdú-Bihar megyei Tagozata és a Debreceni Akadémia Bizottság Irodalomtudományi Bizottsága konferenciát rendezett. E tanácskozás előadásainak többségét debreceni irodalmárok tartották, a szövegek megjelentek különböző folyóiratokban, többnyire a Studia Literaria c. egyetemi periodikában, majd a Csak az igazat c. kötetben.75 Endre Bakó Gyula Illyés and Debrecen Gyula Illyés was a prominent figure in twentieth century Hungarian literature, throughout his long life he linked different generations and eras togehter through his organising work in literature. The study discusses the relationship of the Transdanubian-born writer to the Protestant city of Debrecen in the Tiszántúl region of Hungary in regards to the city's poets, writers and workshops. The paper examines Illyés' presence and reception in the city as in chronological order relying mainly on contemporary local press reports. A separate chapter is about the poet's friendships to the artists of Debrecen, his visits to the city and its theatres and the premiers of his dramas in them. In addition, there is a detailed analysis on how Illyés was percieved in public life in Debrecen and literary journals, and books. The literary magazine "Alföld" regularly published analyzes of the works of the poet, as well as reviews of his plays, the last chapter of the study is dedicated to presenting these. 75 Tanulmányok Illyés Gyula születésének centenáriumán.
