Szabó House with a street front on Páterfia The excavations executed on the site at 49 Peterfia street in Debrecen mostly discovered ceramics from the middle of the 19th century. It is a widely accepted fact amongst experts that after the guilds had been founded the potters of Debrecen could not supply the city with ceramics of the sufficient amount or quality. Written sources frequently mention pottery brought to the city from several different localities. The very fragmented list of finds also include ceramics from different sources. There is a very small number of finds that can definitely be traced to potters from Debrecen, even though there were still 70 of them working in the city in 1851. Although unfortunately there are no records on the productivity of Debrecen's potters, according to Károly Kós's research, one potter could make as much as 5-6000 pots a year. Under any circumstances there must have been a substantial amount of pottery produced in the city, many of which have been/will be excavated by archeologists. The task for the future is to determine the pottery created in large amounts and different sizes by the potters of Debrecen.
