(szerk.: RADICS Kálmán), Debrecen Szilveszter Mező The geographer Dr. Gerő Csinády's (1902-1970) scientific work and legacy in Debrecen The study presents the geographical work and the teaching and research activity of Transylvanian-born Gerő Csinády. Previously, Csinády had been mainly interested in natural history and botanies, and it was in the 1940's that he started to turn towards the science of geography. As a secondary teacher he was mainly interested in the teaching methodology of geography. During this time he wrote several school textbooks, which were considered to be of high quality in the contemporary scientific world. In the next phase of his career he was a lecturer at the Lajos Kossuth University of Arts and Sciences . Working as a reader in the Institute of Geography he undertook significant research in the fields of pollen-analysis and science history. The latter he carried on researching even after he had officialy retired. His main interests were the distant past of Hungarian geography and the traditions of geography-teaching in Debrecen.
