Szilveszter Mező Fragments from the Vestibule of Geography Studies on the history of science 1. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON DÉNES BALÁZS'S (1924-1994) GEOGRAPHICAL WORK, WITH SPECIAL EMPHASIS ON HIS STUDY TRIP TO URUGUAY IN 1984 The author, himself a museologist and a graduate in geography, gives additional information on the work of Dénes Balázs dr. (1924-1994), a Debrecen-born karst explorer. In this study he shares with the readers the findings of his research into technical literature and Balázs's bequest in connection with the great geographer's study trip to Uruguay. The first part ofthe study gives an outline ofthe globetrotter-geographer's life, revealing the antecedents of and motives behind that extraordinary journey. Having shown the milestones ofthe biography, the author - relying on surviving diary entries, correspondence and other documents - reconstructs day by day the most important events ofthe 20-day journey in Uruguay and the results of Balázs's on-the-ground research.
