Történelem - Kahler Frigyes. Twelve Money-Finds of Debrecen from 16th and 17th Centuries
Frigyes Kahler TWELVE MONEY-FINDS OF DEBRECEN FROM 16 TH AND 17 TH CENTURIES Summarizing the messege of the twelve money-finds of Debrecen, it is statable that there is reasonable ground to believe that they are savings resulting from the economy of more than one generation. Some quite poor can be found among the proprietors, but these are characteristically such small-fortune holders that joined in the town's industry and trade. In some cases the ties with the Northern-Western countries can be clearly demostrated, whereas other finds show relations with the domestic market. It is characteristic that the relevant era that the finds date back to falls on the rule of Gábor Bethlen, and this can be confirmed in cases where an other important money-finding era can be traced, the facts show such a vivid trade traffic where it became easier even for the small-fortune holder to save up from their income. The finds extending over to the 18-th century refer to a third era of accumulation, falling on the tormented decades of the Rákóczi war of independence. All these facts go to show that even in times of war the endeavours of the Debrecen people to rise to a higher quality of life which meant a higher class hadn't cease to exist. 166
